The Fannie Farmer Junior Cookbook Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this book for my 8.5 year old daughter who has enjoyed cooking at my side and has an interest in learning to cook. This cookbook provides a wonderful introduction to the world of culinary arts, beginning with an understanding of basic food ingredients, cooking and baking tools and terms and continues with advise on safety and menu planning.
The level is probably best suited to children from 10 - 14, however, with some guidance and supervision my 8 year old can prepare most of the recipes.
Recipes include all the basics from Vegetable soup to Chili to Banana Nut Bread, Brownies, Pies and Punch. All recipes inlcude an equipment list along with the ingredient list and clear, easy to follow step-by-step instructions with important safety tips like "wearing oven mits, remove the cookie sheet from the oven."
We've tried several of the recipes and have not been disappointed. This junior version of the classic compares well. I expect that my daughter will one day take this cookbook off to college.

(More customer reviews)I bought this book when I was new to VHDL and looking for a good book to learn from, this is not it. The book consists of short sections, each showing a different design. This might be a great reference, but I haven't found a use for it just yet.
If you're new, Pedroni's "Circuit Design with VHDL" is worth taking a look at. Pedroni's book is wildly helpful. I found it to be the best laid out book yet. Also, if you're new, the one that has the 70's style squares around the rim of it is good. I borrowed that from a friend when I started; I don't have it in front of me, so I can't quote the name. That book is wonderful for someone just starting, however expect to out grow it quickly and move onto Pedroni's book.

This transition occurs because DSM technology enables increased functionality, higher chip performance and decreased costs.
One obstacle to achieving the full benefits of a DSM technology is the inability of today's design and test methodologies to keep up with continual advances in semi conductor process development. As more companies experience the testing challenges imposed b DSM technology, there is a growing acceptance that semi conductor designers and manufacturers must use a hierarchal approach to testing. Leading manufacturers/developers of semi conductor products are adopting hierarchal test solution - embedded test. Embedded test extends conventional test method with a test solution that hierarchally embeds critical portion of the ATE into the product itself. This embedded test critical portions of the ATE into the product itself. This embedded test complements the functionality of the external ATE and addresses the complexity of products based on technology.
This text provides the application of one such vendor -Logic Vision. If the reader is in search of in-depth embedded test application knowledge in DFT, MBIST, LBIST and JTAG then this is not a recommended book, as this is a handy reference manual to Logic Vision tools.

(More customer reviews)Though I feel this book was written for the newbie and the weekend warrior do-it-yourselfer, it has some pretty advanced stuff in it too. But if you think about it, most electrical projects are the same, just with different uses and boxes.
Along with installations, the book covers tests, troubleshooting and upgrades of outlets, fishing cables and wires, drywall cutting, plugs and wires (and much more.) There is way too much stuff in this book to list here, so the highlights are:
GFCI outlets (where to install and why)
Tools, wires, fittings (when, how and where to use them)
Standby generators
Outdoor installations
Telephone wiring and hook-up
Something it doesn't cover: solar power. It would be nice to cover this growing issue.
You should have no trouble finding your particular problem / project in this book. The step-by-step instructions (with many many pictures and diagrams) make it so easy. I highly recommend this book.
I also highly recommend purchasing a Fluke T5 Electrical Tester along with this book. It is absolutely imperative that you have a *dependable* tester when you are working with electricity. The T5 is one of the easiest to use, just turn it on and the voltage, amps and ohms are given automatically.

Great Sound Stereo Speaker Manual (TAB Electronics) Review

(More customer reviews)A good beginner's book for those interested in building their own speakers without getting into heavy mathematics, passive electronics, complex woodworking, or folded horns. The book explains some the rudiments of speaker theory, and barely enough to design your own simple crossover network. The book has several economical projects which the author already debugged and are ready to build, including: the make and model of the speakers, list of passive components, schematic - which usually include extras like a Zobel network, and the cabinet dimensions. Their are several two-way projects and one three-way with a ten-inch woofer. Most designs use a soft-dome tweeter, if that's what you like. There is a list of raw component vendors in the back of the book. The designs for the ported boxes use the Thiel method, and I am finding that this may be conservatively sized toward the large side with respect to a flat bass response. The prose is a bit wordy, but still easy to read. Overall, I have learned a few things from this book.
