The author blows right by the topic of RF measurement system calibration and the analysis of measurement uncertainty. RF measurement system calibration techniques, is an essential topic if the Test Engineer is to be successful. Without this knowledge, the Test Engineer will become frustrated and deplete his/her resources when the time comes to correlate the test system measurements.
In addition; while performing a cursory review, I came across a misconception relating to S-Parameters. On pages 16 and 17, the author references a non-linear device (mixer) to explain the concept of S-Parameters. S-Parameters, by definition, are linear parameters; however, the author states the mixer's conversion loss, a non-linear parameter, is also S21. He is correct with respect to a 3-port device having nine (9) S-Parameters, however, S21 of the mixer is the IF isolation (rejection) with respect to the RF port and IF port respectfully. This statement is a complete misconception. S-Parameters is a fundamental concept, providing a solid base to RF and microwave engineering. It is apparent; the author does not understand the subject matter. To the neophyte, he looks like an authority. To the wiser, he is a snake-oil salesman and should not be allowed to publish fiction as a reference book. If you cannot run with the big dogs, then sit on the porch.

(More customer reviews)THe CSSLP Prep Guide is an excellent source for understanding the fundamentals and basics of Secure Software Development, however after sitting for the CSSLP exam the book misses the mark and is not very well suited for preparing to take the exam.
The exam is filled with subjectivity as you really have to understand the mindset of the person writing the question as the answers are what is BEST or PRIMARY or MOST IMPORTANT OR MUST BE DONE and the book can't really prepare you for that.
It will still be used as an excellent piece of reference material for buidling the overall security program within my organization but if I didn't pass the exam I will wait for the ISC(2) book or take a boot camp class to prepare for the re-take.

(More customer reviews)This book is, as far as I know, the most comprehensive texbook on VLSI testing available at the moment. It is based on current trends and techniques in the field. After all, the authors are pioneers in this area. A worthy successor to Abramovici's earlier textbook, which, I think is beginning to look increasingly archaic. As a guy who's taken a course in testing by the authors (we were the guinea pigs for the book, actually)and is currently working in the VLSI testing area, I strongly recommend it to anyone looking to build strong testing fundamentals.

I certainly remember feeling that way in my first managerial assignment. Of course you can never reveal the feeling to those around you, that wouldn't be playing the game. While we're at it, you often can't ask your peer managers for much advice and guidance either. It's dumb, but for all the talk about "management teams," peer managers are more likely to be your competitors than your coaches. So where do you turn for sensible advice? I suggest Patricia Ensworth's thoughtful book for the first time manager. I suggest it for second and third time managers as well. She lays out the problems and has at least something sensible to propose for each one. I wish I'd had this book in hand the day I was promoted into management. It might have made the next five years a lot easier. Tom DeMarco

(More customer reviews)First, a disclaimer. I've worked for Dave Vogel for the past 23 years. I was hired during my University Co-Op Education days and have been with Intertech Engineering (the company Dave Vogel founded in 1982) ever since. There is a reason I've stayed - Intertech gets it right. And, fortunately, so does this book.
If I were asked to name reading material that would be a sure-fire cure for insomnia, you can bet the FDA's Regulation and Guidance documents (21 CFR 820 and GPSV) would be high on the list. Those regulations and guidance documents are frequently mired in difficult to understand language and, occasionally, contradictory suggestions. For years we struggled as a company to institute a quality process that is both compliant and practical (this later desire is actually the harder of the two). Over the years we've seen the highs and lows when it comes to Verification & Validation of Medical Device Software and we've learned more than a few things along the way. Much of what we've learned has been laid out beautifully in this book. Very little of the technical content surprised me here - we've been living and using this stuff for many years now. What did surprise me was the approachable and highly readable style of the book. Pulling in relevant sections of the Regulatory code and guidance along with advice and examples, the book lays out not only the "hows" but the "whys" when it comes to Verification & Validation. The no-nonsense approach should be a perfect fit for people who want a hands-on approach to thinking through their quality systems and has plenty of advice to guard against over-engineering the process (or worse, taking shortcuts to avoid the hard decisions). The book doesn't bog down in technical detail nor does it float along in abstract theory which makes it practical for the vast majority of readers. Dave is neither pretentious nor preachy in his writing style and I've found the book to be a welcome companion here in the workplace. If you're feeling lost, confused or frightened when it comes to Verification & Validation of Medical Device Software (and you're certainly not alone), I'd highly recommend you give this a read-through. I suspect you'll find it to be a valuable addition to your professional library.
