ELECTRONIC TEST INSTRUMENT HANDBOOK
BY JOSEPH A. RISSE
About the Author
Few people are better qualified to author this text than Joe Risse. Currently Director of the School of Electronics, International Correspondence Schools, Mr. Risse has had a long career in teaching electronics as well as in developing training programs. With this background, he is not only an expert, but also highly talented in passing along his knowledge for the benefit of others.
A complete reference handbook, containing all you need to know about every basic piece of test equipment used in making all types of electronic tests and measurements. This volume thoroughly explains operating principles, functions, and applications for various meters, generators, testers, oscilloscopes, etc. Included are instruments used in testing and maintaining home-entertainment devices, communications equipment, and industrial and commercial systems. Schematics and drawings, with easy-to-follow hints on circuit repair and general equipment maintenance, are also included. The book further provides complete information on how, when, and where each instrument should be used, as well as how to achieve maximum accuracy and efficiency-practical knowledge which will help anyone who works with test equipment to make the most effective use of various testing and measuring devices.

PREFACE
Many testing, measuring, and indicating devices have been developed for the rapidly-growing field of electronics. In addition to the wide variety of test instruments found in electronics service shops, there are hundreds of precision laboratory and scientific testing and measuring instruments. The broad categories include ammeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, wattmeters, oscilloscopes, various types of signal generators, and numerous component testers--each designed to meet the various demands of the electronics industry.
This book is devoted to a practical analysis of all these instruments, including their operating principles, functions, and applications. The content is detailed, providing an in-depth treatment of "what makes the instruments tick," so that you can better understand, use, and even calibrate and repair test equipment. Typical versions of each type of instrument are discussed so that each category is well represented. Where appropriate, instruments that deviate from the norm are analyzed and discussed.
The instruments described in this book range from basic types to those used in specialized fields. Therefore, whether you are a student of electronics; a technician in radio-TV, communications, sound and audio, or industrial fields; or a technician or engineer engaged in precision laboratory work, the vast information in this book will be invaluable to you.
