(More customer reviews)If "sleeping with the head facing magnetic north" sounds like helpful beauty advice to you, then this book is for you. One of the problems is this book tries to be everything. About 100 pages focus on beauty, 25 on hair and the rest of the book is about stuff that I would consider marginally related to beauty. If I wanted to learn about diets, exercise plans or meditating, I'd be buying whole books on those topics, not a beauty bible. Also, when authors start talking about colonic irrigation and bust enhancing creams, they start to lose a little credibility.
Another problem is the date of the book, 1996. How many of the products reviewed are still around 4 years later? How many have the same formulations? Due to the book being written/published in the UK, some products reviewed aren't readily available here, and conversely, some US products aren't available there and were excluded.
I give it 3 stars for the first 100 pages or so, which really do have nice pictures and illustrations, and very well-written instructions. I just wish the whole book had been like the first 100 pages. I also bought Stephanie Seymour's book and found that to be much more practical and meaty. If you like more of a scientific approach to things, you probably won't be thrilled with this book.

(More customer reviews)And what it intends to do is get one started in camera repair. It does this very well. It shows the necessary tools, gives precautions and explains the sequence of mechanical/electrical events between clicking the shutter button and winding for the next frame. All the basic stuff.
Since every camera is different, it cannot hope to be comprehensive on every make and model but it gives enough theory that one can fix most simple things.
My favorite part of the book is the hints and tips section in the back where it mentions many common camera problems and tricky disassembly points. This section has saved me much time.

(More customer reviews)The information within this book is exactly what I was after and is explained in manner that even I could understand. The author has done a wonderful job and should be commended for that, however, the publisher has let him down dramatically.
The book presents as a well manufactured, UV coated, case bound cover but that is as far as the quality goes. After paying top price for an American printed book one would and should expect the quality of paper for the text to be a shade better than the lick coated, cheap rubbish that has been used. It is the next thing to a work shop manual, so how about trying to build in just a little more robustness into it's production? It's like trying to produce the dead sea scrolls on newsprint. Must frustrate the author no end. Good info, poorly put together.

Painless Project Management with FogBugz Review

(More customer reviews)While this book references a specific defect tracking solution, namely FogBugz, you should read more about the process rather than the specific product. You can apply the same process principles to other defect tracking solutions.
Speaking of FogBugz (I was responsible for selecting it for our software development company), it's NOT the only good defect tracking software out there. It's good, otherwise I wouldn't have chosen it, but it's far from mature. All you have to witness is the bug reports and feature requests on its own support forum:

In some areas FogBugz does it better than other software. In some other areas it does worse. You will have to do you own research and pick the software that works the best for your own needs.
